Siberian Hadron Colider: Russian doctors suggest it can cure cancer

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics. The LHC, which had been in the works since 1984, was the creative output of more than 2,000 physicists, (700 from Russia) and from hundreds of universities and laboratories in 34 countries and was completed last year at a cost about $6 billion.

Russian President Orders Probe of State Corporations: Rusnano is among them

President Dmitry Medvedev on Friday ordered Prosecutor General Yury Chaika and the head of the Kremlin’s oversight department, Konstantin Chuichenko, to open an investigation into state corporations, in a sign of growing skepticism over the institutions’ role in the economy.

Medvedev ordered a sweeping investigation into how state corporations function, including their use of state assets and the degree to which their current activities correspond to federal law, according to a statement posted on the Kremlin’s web site. Medvedev set a deadline of Nov.

Project plans include development of two vaccines for human flu and bird flu and three biopharmaceuticals for treatment of cancer-related toxicity, boosting of the immune system and increasing the efficiency of antibacterial and antiviral drugs, and treatment of lower extremity ischemia and motor neuron disease.

Russia plans 90nm chip production facility near Moscow

RUSNANO Supervisory Council approved the Corporation’s participation in the project aimed at setting up national production of 90-nm topology very large scale integrated circuits (VLSI). In the range of products manufactured as a result of the project are Russian-made microchips for smart cards integrated into electronic traveler’s passports, driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates, bank and social cards, mobile phones SIM-cards, and RFID chips. The integrated circuits manufactured under the project will also be used in GLONASS/GPS devices and digital set-top boxes.
